From a letter from a friend, very nice on the non-propertarian delights of thinking: Yesterday, I began to think well about something new. It makes me laugh to be thinking, some of the thoughts that come to my mind are delightful to me. I feel grateful. It is what calls forth the gratefulness that makes me aware of why it doesn't matter who the hell thinks anything. The delight in the thought, the aesthetics of thinking--it makes clear that subject/object are inappropriate here as are author/audience. It is the entertaining of the thought, the subject thinking the thought, the thinking that is an aesthetic experience. I don't delight at my having thought the thought, but in the thinking itself. So the propertarian impulse is thwarted, dismantled (the propertarian impulse directs one to a separation of the subject from others as consumers or exchangers of thoughts so that one needs to separate herself from her thoughts and ask who owns them for the purposes of exchange). |
