Political fantasy #1 Freedom Summer 2004: People from all over the world pour into the US to campaign against Bush & crew, a la the freedom summer in Mississippi and the International Brigades that fought against Franco in Spain. There are community networks of housing etc. to support them & their presence helps to publicize the terrible impact of US policy as well as to inspire US citizens to get involved. For all the US gov't's self-serving & hypocritical (and now totally exposed as such) "make the world safe for the democracy" rhetoric, it seems to me that we're the ones that badly need international democratic intervention! |
