Monday night was clear and cold here in South Bend. The stars were amazingly bright & luckily I was having dinner with friends that have a super-powerful telescope the size of me. After dinner, we fired the telescope up and I got to see Saturn and its rings and Jupiter and its moons with my own eyes for the first time. It gave me goosebumps. Speaking of bright stars, many congrats to our amazing & inspiring Em who, beating incredible odds (there were something like 150 applications for one of the positions), landed two jobs in two weeks. And that is without the dissertation being finished yet-- my bet is that she'll have the world on a (wheat-free) platter once that sucker is done. |
