Thank goodness I blogged the lyrics to Maddie’s song yesterday—it made me more aware of it as I was singing it—otherwise I might not have realized that the lyrics were leading me right down the road to tyrannical parenthood! So I’ve changed the words again to “you need someone older and wizened, looking out for you” but it still reeks of benevolent paternalism. I’m trying to switch to another song but that one has so insidiously lodged in my brain there may be no escape. Luckily she gives me kinda a wry and knowing look as if she is thinking “right” (like her expression on her april blog pic) so maybe she is taking it all in with a grain of salt. I can only hope that she keeps that attitude for the next 20 years…gulp. |
