It is incredibly appalling that the NYC courts are denying the anti-war protesters a permit to march on saturday. It got me thinking that in terms of being a Bush, George is a Junior; in terms of being a president, he is none other than George III. People talk about him trying to finish his father’s work, but it looks more like he is taking his cues from his other, older namesake, drawing on the old king’s legacy of “repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny.” Check out the similarities: He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power. He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance. Deprived us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury: He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts Taken away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments: Yup, I think that the declaration of independence’s character assessment of King George III would also have apply to President George III: “A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” |
