On the up side of long family visits (still another week to go) is finding treasures such as L’s Montessori report cards. A sampling: 12/76 (3 years old) Larie has really blossomed since September. She has become much more confident socially. She no longer allows people to badger her. She stands up for her own rights. Larie is one of the easiest children to get along with in the class. Everyone loves her and she seems to enjoy all of her classmates. Larie handles disappointment very well. When she cannot have cookies she is very accepting of her fate. 6/77 Larie has grown so much as a person that it is a pleasure to have been a part of it. She is very well liked in the classroom. She was not much of a joiner at the beginning and did almost all of her work alone. Although she is still a loner of sorts, she does seem to have made friends and enjoy working with them. She is so even-tempered in school that the other children like to work with her and be with her. I don’t believe I have ever seen her ask someone to work with her, but her confidence is building up because others do ask her to work with them. Larie loves the practical life. This is excellent because she does need to develop her fine motor skills. She has quite a few juice and paint spills, but they will be less frequent as her fine motor development gets better. Larie keeps herself busy everyday. Larie could come to school, day after day, and never need to communicate with the teacher. She would just keep working on her own. She is a very independent child for her age. She seems to be artistically oriented and loves to paint, play with clay, and create things with paper, scissors and glue. I can’t say enough lovely things about Larie. She is very much a favorite child of everyone. Nicely enough, she does not seem to take advantage of that fact. 12/77 (4 years old) Larie has developed so well since last June. She has so much more confidence in herself. She seems to feel very good about herself. She even looks happier and healthier. Larie has so many friends in the class. She can work with anyone. She seldom needs to go off by herself to work. She always seems to be part of the class. 6/78 Larin loves to learn and wants everyone around her to love it too. She knows the classroom rules and is very upset when her peers break them. She gives very animated lectures to the lawbreakers. Larin does not do well at putting her work away. She moves from project to project without putting anything away. Larin also is very absent-minded about her belongings. She is extremely slow about getting her clothes on and getting ready to go home. Larin’s personality is blossoming. She is more verbal and asserts herself although she seldom seeks out anyone to work with her. When she works, it is usually on her own. When Larin has to be reprimanded, which seems to be more frequently lately, she is usually quite close to tears. She is a sensitive young lady. 11/78 (5 years old) Larie is one of the most good-natured and pleasant children in the classroom. She is very independent, constantly interested and busy and has many new friends with whom she interacts nicely. She seems to work in all areas of the classroom each day, choosing some practical life work, then some sensorial and spends quite some time with her language workbook. This is a rather social affair among those children who have workbooks. They all sit at one table and spend long periods of time quietly discussing what they are doing then branching off into more general discussions of topics of their interest. The first few weeks of the year Larie really got into the math equipment. She wanted to do the Bank Game every day and spent a lot of time making up her own adding problems with the golden beads. She has now fully diverted herself to language work. Her interactions with the other children have always impressed me. She is so pleasant but does not tolerate infringement on her rights. She had resorted to crying when she was wronged but is now learning to discuss what she doesn’t like with the child who “wronged” her and very rarely resorts to tears. She is a very hard worker and is an extremely positive force in the classroom. 6/79 Larie is a very special child. She is advanced academically well beyond any of the other children in the class. She is a very mature worker who always performs exercises properly and puts them away correctly. She is busy the entire day, choosing work from all areas of the classroom. She usually spends time each day with her language and math workbooks. I feel it was a privilege for me to work with her. She actually taught me many things about how to present lessons to the other children. |
